Scientifically Sweet: Cherry Picking for Cherry Pies

Cherry Picking for Cherry Pies

My life is funny. Going cherry picking is my idea of a good time.

I get really excited for stuff like this. Mostly because I know that picking cherries means eating cherries. And because I know that buying 11 lbs of cherries means eating 11 lbs of cherry pie. I also get to wear a yellow polka-dot dress because cherries are round. Go with it.

My right-hand thumbnail is full of cherry juice. That's the hand I use to pick cherries. You get the picture.

This is a cherry tree and these are sour cherries. It's beautiful.

These are sweet cherries. I like making pie with these. You can make pie with sour cherries as well but they are less juicy and you need to add more sugar.....since they're sour. You get that. I'll move on.

I probably ate one tree worth of cherries this week. Actually, I think I ate one tree worth of cherries in a single day. I advise against it. My stomach feels weird.

Do you remember what I did at this time last year?

I went cherry picking, I ate way too many cherries and it made me feel weird. It tasted great but it felt weird. Seriously...weird.

It's now one year later and I did it all over again. Obviously old habits die hard.

I wholeheartedly believe that the best thing you can do with fresh cherries aside from eating them like candy, is baking them into a pie. A deep dish, flaky, tender and juicy pie.

I'm so excited to share this with you. On Friday there will be pie.

I will likely eat it all for lunch and you will want to make it. Get ready.
